You'll stay in a boutique hotel in Loreto for the first half of the trip, then move seaside into our cabins at whale camp for the second half of your adventure.

Your adventure begins and ends at the Loreto airport (LTO), where we handle your transfer to our boutique home base: La Castenada, a relaxing hotel with 7 rooms built around a peaceful courtyard kitchen.

We book the entire property for our group, so you'll have the place, and the easy, communal feel of a shared trip, to yourselves.

You'll spend 4 nights in Loreto exploring for blue whales on the Sea of Cortez, giving you time to settle into the town's rhythm between days on the water.

Breakfast and lunch are included throughout your stay. Mornings start close to home: the hotel sits near the dock, and each day begins at a cafe right at the water's edge, your last stop before boarding. Lunch is brown bag style, enjoyed either on board or onshore depending on that day's wind, waves, and weather. Dinners are left open, so you can wander into Loreto's romantic, easygoing downtown and discover its restaurants on your own terms.

Each day on the water is one whale watching excursion by boat, typically departing at 8:00 a.m. and returning between noon and 3:00 p.m. Exact timing varies with where the whales are that day, and more often with afternoon winds.

Loreto's protected waters are home to one of the most reliable blue whale populations anywhere, and your days are spent watching, not searching, often alongside finback whales, dolphin pods hundreds strong, humpbacks, and sea lions.

The drive from Loreto to camp becomes part of the adventure itself. Along the way, you'll stop in Santa Rosalia for a leisurely lunch and a walk through town, including the city's famous bakery. Between the scenery and the stops, the drive stretches into a full travel day, 8 to 9 hours, more of a guided tour than a transfer.

From there, you'll settle in for 4 nights in Laguna Ojo de Liebre for the second half of your adventure. Travelers depart on Feb. 16th arriving back in Loreto at 11:30 am.
